Kevin grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri, and came to Michigan in 1988 to attend Grand Valley State University for his undergraduate education. While there, he was also fortunate enough to find the woman who would become his best friend and wife.
After graduating from GVSU, Kevin had a successful career in manufacturing management for three Fortune 500 companies in West Michigan. For more than 13 years, he honed his problem solving, communication, and leadership skills.
At the age of 35, Kevin took on the challenge of law school and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree, earning his license to practice law in Michigan in 2008. From 2009 to 2018, Kevin was an attorney in Grand Rapids, with a highly respected general practice law firm downtown. During this time, he built a successful practice by advocating effectively for the rights of his clients and through personal service to their individual legal needs. In the summer of 2018, Kevin launched The Keenan Legal Group PLLC, with a focus on providing his clients with the legal services they need for their businesses and their families.
PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION
Kevin practices in the areas of business law, estate planning, and real estate matters. He is experienced in civil litigation and criminal defense, while also serving on behalf of individuals and businesses in arbitration, mediation, and case evaluation in state court, federal court, and administrative agencies.
As a business law attorney, Kevin assists individuals and employers with the establishment of companies as limited liability companies or corporations. He provides legal services for these entrepreneurs by preparing effective, concise support documents that fit the needs of the business while matching the tone of their brand. This includes drafting client contracts, employment agreements, independent and subcontractor agreements, employee handbooks, operating agreements, and a variety of other contracts to establish the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.
He works with businesses and individuals to resolve conflicts using every available option up to and including litigation when necessary. Kevin's 13 years of manufacturing management experience in West Michigan, combined with his litigation experience, has given him a unique perspective to help find solutions for his clients' problems.
ESTATE PLANNING
As an estate planner, Kevin meets with his clients to determine proper plans to cover their needs. This includes preparing wills, trusts, powers of attorney documents, patient advocate designations, the appointment of agents, and petitioning the courts on behalf of caretakers that wish to be granted guardianship status for developmentally disabled individuals.
Finally, part of Kevin's practice involves advocating for the rights of those clients accused of misdemeanor criminal offenses, including Michigan license and driving violations, simple assault, retail fraud, and driving under the influence. Kevin has successfully worked with clients to expunge criminal records in several West Michigan counties. In addition, he successfully advocates for the restoration of driving privileges for his clients.
